ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND PROGRAM DEVELOPER
Sherry Bezanson lives in Kamloops, BC with her teenage daughter Jill. She has been working in the social service field and with youth since 1987. She graduated from UVIC in 1992 with a degree in Social Work, specializing in addictions. Her work with street youth, youth wilderness programs, gay and lesbian youth, and other at risk populations propelled her to look at alternatives to dominant approaches to youth intervention.
Prevention work with pre-teen girls took form as she sought alternatives to problem focused counselling and support. In 1997 she combined her professional and creative skills to develop Girl Power. The group content has evolved over the years with the inclusion of youth and parental input to adequately reflect issues facing pre-teen girls.
Sherry is self-employed and works in counselling, rehabilitation consulting and facilitating Girl Power groups and Girl Power facilitator training.
She loves the outdoors - snowboarding, paddling, hiking, roller-blading, Ultimate and other team sports. Sherry avidly nourishes her creative spirit through visual arts, writing, and fabric design.
